Undergraduate Research Assistant

Position Information

Job Duties

We are implementing a field experiment to examine the effectiveness of individual and team competition in increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables (FV) during lunch among elementary school students.

Research assistants are expected to be present at one of the public schools in Columbia during lunch times (schools to be determined) every day for a seven-week period.

Research assistants will collect observational data on individuals’ food choices and consumption during lunchtime. At the lunchroom entrance, a research assistant will provide each child with a name tag to stick on their tray. At the checkout point, another research assistant will take a picture of the tray (the child’s facial and body features will not appear in the pictures) and stamp a rewards card. After lunch, the research assistants will take a picture of the food leftovers in the tray (the child’s facial and body features will not appear in the pictures).
