Research Assistant (Pashto Speaker)

Position Information

The research assistant will support research on English language and literacy education for refugee women and youth, primarily by providing Pashto language support during classroom instruction and fieldwork.

Job Duties

Tasks will include interpreting between teachers and students as needed during classroom instruction; taking fieldnotes; facilitating focus groups and one-on-one interviews in Pashto; assisting with the preparation of data collection tools such as focus group questions; occasionally translating documents; and assisting with publications, presentations, and grant proposals if interested. Training will be provided. This can be a work study position for eligible students.

Required Skills

  • Pashto language speaking proficiency
  • Willingness to learn qualitative research techniques
  • Use of word processing and digital tools (e.g., Google Drive)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pashto language reading and writing proficiency
  • Interest in education and/or research

Other Comments

Schedule (6-10 hours/week):

  • Required: Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings 10 am -12 pm at City of Refuge (10 N. Garth Ave., Columbia MO, 65203)
  • Preferred: Thursday evenings 6-8 pm at City of Refuge
  • Additional hours: TBD based on applicant availability
