Position Information
The Bergstralh-Finegan lab is based in Tucker Hall in the Division of Biological Sciences at the University of Missouri. We research how animal tissues acquire and maintain their shape, and what happens when that shape get disrupted. We use the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, and cultured mammalian cells as the model systems for this work. More information about our lab can be found here: www.bergstralhlab.com.
The main duties of this position will be to (i) manage the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) stock collection containing ~550 genetically unique stocks and (ii) contribute to the maintenance of a safe biological research laboratory.

Job Duties
(i) Principal responsibilities:
• manage and maintain fly stocks
• manage and cook fly media
(ii) Other responsibilities:
• autoclave fly waste
• fruit fly laboratory cleaning and maintenance
• other tasks within the scope of lab maintenance
Required Skills
Interest in biological sciences and genetics
Excellent organization and time management skills
Previous experience with database curation/management
Ability to follow instructions with care and accuracy
Methodical and accurate approach to work showing excellent attention to detail
Possess good communication skills
Show initiative and have the ability to judge when to use it
Sensitivity to the relative urgency of tasks and to the significance of the work
To display a professional attitude towards members of the lab and wider University personnel.
