Undergraduate Student Assistant, Media and Research

Position Information

The job will include administrative tasks, web site revision, social media support, and research assistance.  

The work involves: editing documents and digital images, internet searches, updating web pages, transcribing audio recordings, supporting events in registration, set up, and clean up, , assisting in data collection, analysis or recruitment. Work hours are flexible and will be determined in relation to the student’s class schedule.

Job Duties

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare for workshops and events.
  • Assist with social media outlets, photo and video organization, and participate in all phases of program promotion during on-campus events.
  • Support investigators and coordinators in transcribing, collecting, or analyzing data
  • Attend student meetings and enhance the Student Community experience

Required Skills

  • Current undergraduate with GPA of at least 3.0
  • At least 2 semesters remaining in their undergraduate program of study at the Univ. of Missouri, Columbia.
  • Interest in advancing equity in student organizations and higher education
  • Experience with word processing software and ability to type and write well. 
  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Ability to edit photographs, produce small clips from digital interviews, and record events in digital film and photo formats.
  • Detail-oriented.  Science or education background is a plus. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background and interest in equity, STEM, and/or education
  • Portfolio or record of social media management, marketing, or public communication.
  • Overall proficiency using multiple platforms on a regular basis.
  • Strong oral communication, and time management skills.
  • Be a self-starter and at ease with autonomy, possess excellent organizational skills, and maintain an unwavering attention to detail on all assigned tasks. 

Other Comments

  • Working in the program may not be limited to a traditional work week, so the candidates must be willing to work some nights and weekends, with flexibility; an adaptive mindset and responsive manner of communication are a must. 
  • Commitment to work through summer 2024, into fall 2024 or beyond.
