To assist with lab and greenhouse activities related to screening soybean for resistance to soybean cyst nematode. Greenhouse activities include watering plants, transplanting seedlings, harvesting soybean roots, filling pots with sand, and cleaning pots. Lab activities include packaging seed, preparing samples for data collection, counting nematode cysts using a stereo microscope and computer imaging software, and recording data. The main responsibility of this position will be to accurately and efficiently collect data. The lab assistant will also help with lab/greenhouse organization and maintaining a clean work environment.
Attention to detail, good communication, and good organization skills are required. Ability to lift 25-30 pound buckets of sand and the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time while doing technical tasks. Applicant will also need a driver’s license to operate university vehicles.
