A lab assistant position is available in the Plant Nematology Lab - SCN Diagnostics. The successful candidate will assist with processing and analyzing soil samples to extract nematodes, the set-up and take-down of germplasm screens for nematode resistance, watering of plants in greenhouses, steaming and disposal of soil, data entry, dishwashing and lab cleanliness.
The ideal candidate is majoring/has majored in plant science, biology or a related field who is self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, enthusiastic and eager to learn, manages time well, and is reliable. Must have 3+ hour blocks availability M-F and availability for 30 min in the early afternoon on some weekends to water. Excellent verbal communication skills are required. Prior experience working with plants is desirable. This is not a research position but takes place in a research lab, so the successful candidate will learn how to conduct research and experiments. Must have the ability to lift at least 30 pounds and stand for prolonged periods of time while doing technical tasks. A driver’s license is required to operate university vehicles.
