The Laboratory Research Assistant will perform molecular biology laboratory tasks such as pipetting, plant tissue collection, DNA extraction, fatty acid extraction, Near-infrared Spectroscopy, and assisting with molecular marker assays. Other duties include, but are not limited to cleaning lab and laboratory supplies, assisting the soybean breeding seed lab and field crews with cleaning and packaging seed, weeding, field data collection, planting and harvest of research plots.
This position will report to the Bay Farm Research Facility at 5601 South Rangeline Road Columbia MO 65201 (south and adjacent to Bradford Research Center, approximately 9 miles southeast of MU campus). Personal transportation is required. Applicants must be able to work indoors and outdoors between 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and/or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Monday-Friday) in all weather conditions during the spring, summer, and fall. Up to 40 hours per week during the summer break, and at least 2 shifts (8 total hours minimum) per week during semester are required. This position requires excellent observational, record keeping, organizational, and troubleshooting skills. The job candidate should also be able to work well with others or independently, with preference given to those possessing a positive attitude and a strong academic record
Molecular biology and chemistry laboratory experience preferred.
