This talk will describe the distribution of cases and/or deaths across counties in Missouri during the 1918 influenza and during the present COVID-19 pandemic. Similarities and differences will be highlighted, and in addition, we will discuss what we can learn from study of the 1918 pandemic that will help us to understand potential outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic and what some of the limitations may be of trying to make analogies between the two pandemics. The emphasis will be on understanding the potential future impact of COVID-19, especially in rural counties of Missouri.
