School of Health Professions Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program
The School of Health Professions (SHP) Undergraduate Research Mentorship Program was developed to encourage SHP undergraduate students to explore research under the guidance of a faculty member. Students who are accepted into the program agree to work on the research project a minimum of six hours per week over a 16-week period (the equivalent of a full semester). In addition, they are required to prepare and present a poster for a University-sponsored forum of undergraduate research. Many students choose to present their work at the Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievements Forum. Others have been offered the opportunity to be Ambassadors for Research at the Missouri State Capitol. Some students, in addition to their University presentation, choose to present at regional and national conferences.
- Eligibility:
- SHP students who have entered a professional program are eligible to apply for this opportunity. Those interested in applying should contact a faculty member to discuss the possibility of working on a project together. The student may approach the faculty member with a research idea in mind, or the faculty member may suggest an idea or project that would be suitable for the experience.
- Pay:
- Students are awarded a stipend of $500 for their participation in the program.
- Deadline:
- Applications are due each September, and awards are made in October. The start and end dates of the 16-week research commitment are set by the individual faculty mentor and student, but students generally begin their research in the fall semester.
